Sitemap for SEO
Here I am not going to be too much technical about XML sitemaps, but I guess it’s better to understand basic theory and its importance. Basically XML or eXtensible Markup Language is much like HTML; the core purpose of XML is to store and transport data.
Sitemap is a document which contains all details of your website in this one document; mostly it contains all the pages available on your website, their status in terms of last updated etc. All together this is a file generated in XML format.
Search engines require this document from webmasters so that they could have a better understanding of the website. Mostly we place this in our root folder of our website hosting, where our main file (index.html, index.php or default.html) is placed.
Now remember one thing, whenever you make any changes in your website, never forget to update your sitemap. I recommend you to update it at least each month in terms of updating the search engines about your website.
At this stage we are simply generating a XML sitemap and updating it to our root web hosting directory. There are penalty of websites which offer to create free sitemaps but I like http://xml-sitemaps.com as this is very easy to go.
Simply open the website, enter your website address and generate sitemap. Once this is generated, download it and place it in your web hosting root directory.
In case you are using any CMS (wordpress, joomla, etc) then I recommend you to go through their documentation to generate a sitemap.
